The Northstar Community Services District provides recreational amenities to the public in the form of trails. The District in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Northstar-at-Tahoe has constructed and maintains 17.9 miles of multi-use trails. The Tompkins Memorial Trail is located in the lower portion of the mountain and provides the residential developments links to the Martis Valley and Porcupine Hill areas. All of these trails are open to the public for hiking, running and biking.
Looking to the future, the District is the lead agency on a new and exciting regional trail project. The Martis Valley Trail is a proposed Class I trail which will link Northstar with the Truckee Legacy Trail and the Town of Truckee and provide a pathway to the Tahoe basin. The trail will begin at the intersection of Highway 267 and Airport Road and meander through Martis Valley to the Village at Northstar. The trail then will head up to the ridge where it will connect with the Fibreboard Freeway, the Tahoe Rim Trail and a possible future trail climbing up from the north shore communities of Lake Tahoe. The CEQA process has been completed with a certified EIR. For more information on the proposed regional trail or the existing Tompkins Memorial Trail, please contact the District’s administration offices.
